MoHS & WHO Hold Monthly Technical Consultation on Priority Health Issues

The Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) and WHO held their joint monthly technical consultation meeting on Tuesday 8 May 2012. The meeting was co-chaired by the WHO Representative, Dr Alemu and the Chief Medical Officer of MoHS, Dr Kisito Daoh, and was attended by directors and programme managers of the MoHS and technical officers of the WHO Country Office.
Key issues discussed at the meeting included finalization of the road map on implementation of Health Sector Response to all hazards, functionality of the National Public Health Reference Laboratory, update on cholera outbreak, strengthening surveillance and response, preparation of guidelines on infection control, Human Resources for Health capacity building.
The delay encountered in processing the WHO fellowship for 5 medical doctors in the pipeline, as well as the preparation of delegates for the 65th World Health Assembly were also discussed. Each issue was extensively discussed and recommendations on concrete actions made including assigning responsible persons for action. Both the CMO and WR underlined the importance of the regular consultations in improving health sector coordination including the revitalization of the health sector coordination mechanism as agreed in the Country Compact.

The joint technical meeting is held monthly between the Top Management Team of the MoHS led by the CMO and WHO to discuss priority health issues, policies and strategies, identify progress and challenges in the sector and to foster strengthened collaboration.

The forum is also used to share information on governing body decisions and other pertinent health issues including emerging health topics at global and regional levels and to follow up implementation of planned activities.

The meeting was coordinated by the Directorate of Human Resource in the Ministry of Health and Sanitation with technical and financial support of the World Health Organization.
